Google Testing PayPal Killer GBuy !

Several retailers have been quietly testing a Google payment system called GBuy, and users will see a GBuy icon next to AdWords paid search ads. PayPal has dominated the online payment field for some time. It has been a profitable business, one which eBay purchased in October 2002.

That PayPal revenue may look like a big jar of chocolate chips to the Cookie Monsters at Google. Their rival system, called GBuy, has been getting a workout since the early part of 2005. The Journal cited a source briefed on the service:

For the last nine months, Google has recruited online retailers to test GBuy, according to one person briefed on the service. GBuy will feature an icon posted alongside the paid-search ads of merchants, which Google hopes will tempt consumers to click on the ads, says this person. GBuy will also let consumers store their credit-card information on Google.

Storing payment information has been an ease-of-use feature and strength of PayPal. Google has enough brand recognition to get a lot of attention. The Journal's report seems to suggest the way Google will get users on board will be through its GBuy retailers. But will eBay accept GBuy as a payment method? Probably, as long as eBay gets its cuts of a sale as is customary.

PayPal deja se ingrijoreaza ...
normal ca le este teama, cand paypal nu accepta nici jumatate din tari,
nici afaceri precum cazinourile sau site-uri adult/porno, etc... unde este o piata imensa!!!

GPay or GBuy ?

We already talked about this before, the new google payment service is certainly coming very soon according to the Wall Street Journal which have spread the first news about this service. Recently there was another post in the journal titled PayPal Prepares For a Challenge From Google, the article is talking about Paypal and how they are trying to find informations about the new google payment service

Mr. Jordan, who is president of eBay Inc.'s PayPal online-payments unit, immediately asked employees to unearth information about the Google service. Soon, PayPal employees were monitoring blogs, news reports and other data for information about Google's progress in payments. PayPal staffers even gleaned details about Google's plans during regular calls to customers who were eager to dish about how Google had reached out to them.

"It's a very legitimate competitive threat," says Mr. Jordan, 47 years old. "It's hard not to pay attention to what Google is doing."

Domeniul pentru Gpay va fi probabil:
GOOGLEPAYMENT.COM
(momentan nu este activ)

Google Payment Corp.

Another information that I've found and which confirm officially the new google payment service. Google have registred Google Payment corporation on my birthday April 13, 2005.

Google have also registred the domain name GOOGLEPAYMENT.COM since 26-sep-2004 for 3 years and the dns record have been updated on 05-may-2005.

Hope it will support more countries, not like paypal which is limited and I really don't like their way of doing e-commerce business. Paypal consider themselves a leader and without any real concurrent. The giants are coming to take over the e-payment market, stay tuned !

E clar:
GPay vs Ebay sau GPay vs PayPal

GPay to go up against Ebay
February 06, 2006

This posting is funny but Paypal doesn’t see any humor in this. Paypal’s president Jeff Jordan has sent all his employees scouring for information regarding GPay and WSJ’s article on GBuy vs Paypal is sparse on any details about Google’s stance save for one quote from Eric Schmidt claiming he does not intend to compete.

But compete they will and in true Google fashion too. They will likely find a small niche, test the grounds and start scaling and innovating on the payment platform. GPay/GBuy will most likely be used by the millions of webmasters running adsense on their site so they can manage their payments online much like EBay buyers/sellers do with Paypal. Subsequently, Google will introduce some killer APIs to engage the web dev community who will move in and start integrating GPay systems into their websites (and even existing OpenSource web apps). Once the wedge is in place, why not allow these developers to transfer money between to one another? And once money is being transferred, why just limit it to webmasters? In terms of scale, Google is well above average and even sets the standard. They will start off with something simple and scale it over a the next few months or years.

Google’s silence and their denial should not be taken to mean that they will not take up on Paypal. It’s inevitable and its an obvious move into the online payments market. This will also put Google in a good position to initiate efforts into Micropayments.

This will be interesting because I for one don’t like Paypal controlling the market and dictating ridiculous withdrawal and transaction fee. In Canada email money transfers are the norm and they are practically free). It would be nice to have the U.S. banks do the same.
